In 1993, she earned her doctorate from Ohio State University Law School.
Susan performed advocacy work with the long-term care ombudsman program of the Ohio Department of Aging. Then after more than a decade of assisting with the regulation of health care providers through Ohio Board of Nursing, she returned to clinical health care with Mount Carmel Health System, OH palliative care and hospice.
More recently, from 2019 through 2023, she held the position of Assistant Director for the Office of Founded Ministries with the Dominican Sisters of Peace, promoting the Dominican Charism in their ministries in multiple states.
No stranger to the CNR motto Serviam or ‘I will Serve,’ for the past thirteen years, Susan volunteers for and served on the board of Nursing Heart, an organization committed to a mission of working to improve the health of underserved communities in Guatemala.
In addition to her service with Nursing Heart, she has been an active member in several parish ministries, joined the St. Margaret of Scotland Parish choir, and volunteers with a hospice in St. Louis, MO, where she states, “It is a privilege to be present for patients and families and loved ones during very challenging and grace-filled moments.”
