RAJU THADANI '89
Director, IT Customer Services
British Airways
Raju Thadani used his time at Mercy College to educate himself about more than the intricacies of Computer Information Systems. He also cultivated better interpersonal skills and strengthened his leadership abilities - two attributes that have proven useful in business, and life.
In retrospect, Thadani says he learned a great deal from his time as president of the International Association, and then of the Student Association; his work as both a resident assistant and head resident assistant, and from the days he spent working as student aid to the Provost. From all these activities, he learned about how to motivate people and resolve conflicts, and mastered the finer points of budgeting, resource coordination, policy development and more - all skills he now uses in his position as president and Chief Executive Officer of Raven Technology Group Inc. in New Jersey.
While at Mercy College, Thadani secured an internship with British Airways, in its Information Management department. Soon after graduating from Mercy in 1989 with a bachelor's of science in Computer Information Systems, British Airways offered him a job as a personal computer specialist. He accepted it, and proceeded to progress through the ranks over the next nine years, In April 1998, he was named director of Information Technology Customer Services for the Americas. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the airline's Americas IT operation, the North American data centers, help desk and technical support teams, network operations and desktop provisioning and support services.
Thadani continued in that post until July 2000, when he co-founded Raven Technology Group Inc. As president and CEO, he is responsible for the company's assets, revenues, and operations. Thadani is a member of the Communication Managers Association - a tele-com munications industry organization. He was recipient of the British Airways Information Management "Spotlight on Success" award from the company's CIO.
