KATHLEEN WALSH MURNION '65
President
K.W. Murnion and Associates, Inc.

Reflecting on her time at Mercy, Kathy remembers that “being a part of Mercy's first class of laywomen was a wonderful experience. It was a time to explore the unknown in the larger universe and the untapped in ourselves. It was a time for learning the value of dreaming and exploration, and then doing.”

Upon her graduation with a degree from Mercy College in English, Kathleen Walsh Murnion began her career as a high school English teacher, then moved into the business world as a media supervisor for Bristol-Meyer Company. She became an Associate Product Manager for Clairol, Inc., and then a senior product manager for Nabisco Brands, Inc. As a Marketing Consultant for Grinker, Walker and Associates, Inc., Kathy created and implemented the Year I Marketing Plan for New York Works for a $700,000 contract with the N.Y.S. Department of Social Services to place welfare women in private sector jobs. Continuing to teach throughout her career, she served as adjunct professor at New York University's Wagner Graduate School of Public Administration, New York University's School of Continuing Education, and Fordham University's Graduate School of Business Administration.

As President of K. W. Murnion and Associates, Inc., she provides marketing and management services to nonprofit organizations, foundations, and government agencies. Her firm offers the design of strategic marketing campaigns, training and development of leadership boards, and development of long-term comprehensive plans to assure future growth. Clients include local, régional and national groups such as the YWCA of Brooklyn, the United Way of New York City, the Citibank Foundation, the Beth Israel Medical Center, and the American Library Association.

Kathy earned her B.A. in English from Mercy College in 1965, an M.A. in English literature in 1970 from City University of New York, and an M.B.A. in Marketing and Management from New York University in 1980. Active as a volunteer, she has served as President of the American Marketing Association, and serves on the Board of Trustees for Mary Manning Walsh Home, the Leviticus Alternative Fund, the Dominican Academy and 50 Park Avenue Corporation.
