Dr. Joan Toglia

Dr. Joan Toglia has a proven record of leadership, academic integrity and extensive scholarship. Prior to her appointment as dean, Dr. Toglia served as the Program Director of the Graduate Program in Occupational Therapy at Mercy College from 1994-2012. Dr. Toglia has over 30 years of experience in NeuroRehabilitation, working in acute, rehabilitation and outpatient settings with adults with acquired brain injury and other neurological disorders. She also holds an appointment as Adjunct Clinical Professor of Cognitive Science in Rehabilitation Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Toglia previously served as Manager of Occupational Therapy from 1985-1994 at New York Presbyterian - Cornell Medical Center. Recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in the rehabilitation of persons with cognitive and perceptual deficits, Dr. Toglia has presented over 300 workshops throughout the US, and the world including Canada, Israel, Hong Kong, Argentina, Chile, South Africa, Sweden, and the Netherlands. She has authored or co-authored over 75 publications in the area of cognitive rehabilitation. In 2013 Dr. Toglia was named a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association in recognition of her contributions to cognitive rehabilitation theory and practice. Dr. Toglia completed her occupational therapy education at New York University, a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology and Doctor of Philosophy in Measurement and Evaluation from Teachers College of Columbia University.
